Zoraya-en

Homage to Zoraya-Isabel de Solis, queen of Granada with the name of Zoraya. He lived in the second half of the fifteenth century. Apparently she was a maiden daughter of the commander Sancho Jiménez de Solís and during one of the struggles between the Christians and Muslims of Granada, she was captivated by the Nasrid and taken to the Alhambra.

The legend tells that she was a very beautiful woman and that the king of Granada, Muley Hacén (1464-1482, 1483-1485) fell madly in love with her. After professing the Islamic religion and taking the name of Zoraya (Lucero del Alba), he married the monarch, who became his favorite wife. This relationship caused the disgust of abencerrajes and the jealousy of the sultana Aixa, mother of Boabdil, who encouraged a series of intrigues in the court and the internal disputes that finished with the abdication of the monarch in its brother, the Zagal, and, later Unleashed the capture of the kingdom of Granada by the Catholic Monarchs in 1492.
