Church of Béznar

Church of San Antón. – Raised in the 16th century, it was built between 1525 and 1530, working on it the carpenter Juan Fernandez and the bricklayer Juan de Toledo.

Consecrated as Santa María la Mayor, after the epidemic of the middle of the S. XVIII dedicated to San Antón, presenting a very restored exterior, preserves in its interior all the original elements.

Gothic-Mudejar style of three naves, separated by ogival arches and covered in its entirety by wooden roof (the one of the central nave, of pair and nudullo, ochavada in the smaller sides of the rectangle and with six transverse straps. Sides, with carvings, inclined in the same direction as the roof, to a water). The church has two entrances: one at the feet, on which a small choir rises, with a very deteriorated organ, and another on the wall of the nave of the Gospel.

The altarpiece is the work of Grenadian assemblers and carvers of the S. XVII, reminding, although of smaller proportions, to the church of Saints Justo and Pastor of Granada, for its rotating tabernacle and for the medium size of its sculptures; Likewise in polychrome wood: A crucifix in the central street, on the tabernacle; San Miguel and the Virgin of the Angustias, the Virgin of Grace and San Antón, in both side streets.
